Religious Education

At Meridian, we believe that Religious Education (R.E.) should be delivered through an exciting and engaging curriculum that helps children make sense of the world they are living in.

We use Jigsaw R.E. to support the teaching and learning in this subject to ensure that children are able to develop their understanding of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts and practices.  Children are encouraged to ask and reflect on challenging questions and we provide opportunities for children to explore and understand important means of communication used to convey beliefs, for examples books, scriptures, teachings and leaders.  We support children to make connections between the beliefs and practices learnt and provide opportunities for personal reflection where they can explore their beliefs and ways of living.

Over time, all children will be taught about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism, exploring what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live.  This supports children to appreciate and respect the diversity of people in today's society, both within the school and local communities, and in the wider world.

Our R.E. curriculum is one way in which we provide children with opportunities to develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally.
