Science

In our science lessons, children are encouraged to be inquisitive and curious about their world and develop scientific skills.  We encourage children to think like scientists such as asking questions, planning investigations, carrying out experiments and drawing conclusions.  Children will acquire and develop key scientific knowledge and skills through well planned lessons that build on prior learning.  Children cover topics such space and the solar system, plants, animals (including humans), forces, electricity, light and sound and the properties of materials.

All children from Year 1 to Year 6 have a weekly science lesson where they develop their knowledge of scientific facts, concepts and theories with opportunities for hands on practical investigations and experiments using a range of equipment.  There are also opportunities to explore and discuss important scientists across our curriculum and apply scientific knowledge in some Forest School lessons.

In Early Years, children develop their scientific skills and knowledge through developing their understanding of the world around them.  The are taught these new skills and knowledge through hands on experiences both inside and outside, including during their Forest School lessons.
