Governors

The Full Governing Body meets approximately 10 times per academic year, around once a month.  The Governing Body's duty is to lead the school and support the Head Teacher in determining the strategy and direction of the school, the implementation of statutory requirements including policies and monitoring the school improvement plan through active participation.

The Governing body has three core functions;

1) Vision, Ethos and Strategic directions

2) Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.

3) Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Meet our Governors

Janet Anthony - Chair of Governors

Janet is the Chair of Governors. Although Janet only joined us in the summer term of 2015, Janet has had much experience of being a Governor.

 “I have been a member of the Shadow Governing Body at Meridian since the summer term of 2015 and as Chair I aim to support the school staff and parents to enable the students to gain the most from their education. I come from a background of teaching and school management, specialising in working with young people with Autism.  I have numerous years’ experience as a school Governor in a variety of school settings and worked for many years as a trainer and consultant for East Sussex Governor Services.”

Jonathan Rowsell  - Vice Chair of governors

Jonathan is a Co-opted Governor, and has been with us since September 2015 and has had a lot of experience of working in school.

“I joined the Shadow Governing Body at Meridian in September 2015.  I have worked in primary education for just over twenty years.  I began my teaching career working in East London in a multi-cultural primary school.  Following relocation to live by the sea, I worked as a deputy head teacher in a two-form entry primary school in Littlehampton.  For the past five years I was head teacher at a village school in East Sussex. I now work as an independent education consultant, a job that involves visiting many different primary schools working with school leaders, as well as children.  I have a keen interest in using data to support continued school improvement. I understand the key role Governors have in ensuring schools are ‘the best they can be for all children, families and staff. I look forward to working as part of the Governing Body to strongly support the whole school team.”

Claire Westcott - Headteacher

Laura Miles

Laura is a Staff Governor and has been on the Governing Body since 2015, Laura is employed at the school as a year 3 teacher.

“I have been a primary school teacher for 10 years.  Before joining Meridian I worked in a school in Brighton area of significant deprivation.  I joined the Shadow Governing Body in 2015.  Having been on the Governing Board in my previous school, I knew it was a valuable way of learning about the school and contributing to school development”

Katie Jefferies

Katie is a Parent Governor and has been with us almost a year. Katie has two children with us at Meridian in Years 3 and Reception.

"I'm Katie Jefferies and have 2 children who attend Meridian. I have been part of the shadow governor team for almost a year now and have attended various training courses to provide me with the skills needed. I am enjoying being part of the governor team and take an active part in the schools vision."
